About the client

An international professional body of town planners with over 27,000 members, the Royal Town Planning Institute are responsible for maintaining professional standards and accrediting world class planning courses.

About the problem

Perceptions of urban planning amongst young adults (16-25) shows they lack understanding around the positive role planning has on their communities. RTPI hoped to make town planning a desirable career path. RTPI wanted us to design and develop a new microsite and campaign identity that would appeal to a younger audience and showcase inspiring projects and planners.

Drawing on data from user research, we created a dynamic site, featuring a fun and animated art style, in order to make town planning more approachable. After testing several navigation methods, we were able to provide a solution which allowed users to explore the different aspects of town planning in an informative and stimulating way. The site has performed above expectations, with strong engagement across the board.

About the solution

Working as the design lead alongside the creative director, we kicked off the project by unpicking the brief and the survey results. Highlighting key areas that we could use to underpin the direction.

Having worked with RTPI for several years on project improvements to their existing site, we already had a good working relationship. They were happy for us to take a more playful approach to differentiate it from their more corporate parent site.
